Burgio, an ancient Sicilian town, seems to have stopped time
Burgio is perched high on a mountainside near Sciacca (Agrigento). It blends Arab and medieval streets with more than 100 stone gates, bronze bells, craft shops, stained glass, art, and its magnificent castle.
Its rich history and tradition can be seen through the many craft activities that are linked to the artistic pottery as well as the Foundry Campane Virgadamo (bells manufacturer).
We are impressed by its beautiful, artistic ceramics that are decorated with rich, floral, and ornithological motifs.
Burgio bell production dates back to 150. Since then, the only foundry has been in operation is that of the Virgadamo family.
They are the only bell findry in southern Italy and their manufacturing process remains faithful to tradition.
