Italy isn’t all about Rome, Florence and Venice. Italy has stunning countrysides and more beautiful islands. This guide will show you the top Italian islands to visit if you are planning a summer vacation. Below is a map of the Italian islands that highlights the top nine islands to visit.
Ten Best Italian Islands to Visit
Although many people have been to all of these islands, they might not agree that Sardegna is the best. However, all 10 of the most beautiful islands in Italy are equally stunning. Sicily, for example, has more cultural activities than Sardegna. Despite the endless list of beautiful beaches in Sardegna, I fell in love with it and named it the first best island of Italy.
How many Italian islands do you know of? There are approximately 450 islands in Italy. Some smaller than others, some empty or partially covered by buildings like Venice. This list will include the top Italian islands to enjoy summer vacations. You can find stunning beaches and plan relaxing road trips as well as peaceful holidays.
To help you find the locations of all the islands we will be listing, we have included a map of Italy below. These islands are ideal for vacationing with friends or family. They are also perfect if you are looking for romantic locations in Italy.

Italian Islands Map
This map of the Italian islands will help you choose which island to visit. Below you will find information about Lampedusa, Caprera and Capri. You can see the closest airports to your island destination if you fly from Italy because there are so many beautiful islands.
Many of these islands have their very own airports. However, some are only accessible by private boats or ferries. Airports are available on islands like Lampedusa, Sicily, Sardinia and Sicily. You can reach Capri, Ischia and Procida by boat.
1. Sardinia
Sardegna (Sardinia), as I’ve already said, is my favorite Italian island. Since I was a child, it has been on my list of places to visit. I even made it my first destination for my first vacation after moving to Italy. Sardegna is one the most beautiful Italian islands with its many stunning beaches and crystal clear water. It also has the best fancy summer vibes.
You should plan your visit to Sardegna if you are looking for culture. This includes places like Cagliari. But if you just want to relax and enjoy the beaches, the area of Olbia is the north-east corner of the island. These beaches are some of the most stunning! Fly in Sardinia from Olbia, Cagliari, or Alghero.
2. Sicily
When it comes to combining culture and beautiful beaches, Sicily is the most interesting option for an island off Italy. Most people will choose Sicily over Sardegna when it comes to the best Italian islands. It’s no surprise, considering both islands are among the most beautiful in Italy. There are many cities and towns to explore in Sicily, rich history, beautiful culture, and volcanoes.
Visit places such as Palermo which has its own airport, if you are looking for places to visit in Sicily. Palermo is full of amazing landmarks, squares and churches. You will also find many beautiful beaches all around the city. You should also add places such as Taormina and Syracuse to your list when you visit Sicily. We must warn you about one thing: the weather. The summer months in Sicily can be extremely hot so if you aren’t able to handle 40C, it is best to avoid Sicily from June through August.
3. Elba
What are some other islands in Italy that you should be aware of, besides Sicily and Sardegna? Elba is a favorite island in Italy for Italians from the regions Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, and Lombardy. Expect to see more Italian tourists when you visit Elba than other people. Although Elba may be smaller than the other two, it boasts the most beautiful beaches and the clearest water.
You can find Elba on the Italian islands map between Corsica and the southern part Tuscany. Although Elba is not cheap, it’s a great place to visit. Elba’s accommodation can be expensive, but Elba is very popular for those who want to take a boat trip or sail around the Italian islands. We recommend Elba.
4. Capri
Capri is a well-known Italian island. It boasts stunning views, gorgeous water, incredible lagoons and luxurious luxury. Capri is a popular vacation spot for celebrities and the elite of the upper class.
Before I visited Capri, I was shocked to discover that it would be one the most beautiful islands in Italy. Visitors spend a day on Capri, and take the ferry from Naples or Sorrento. The island is very expensive and luxurious. Capri is a beautiful island in Italy and it’s worth the effort, regardless of whether you’re on a short vacation or a longer one. Capri is a great place to visit if you don’t have the time or desire to spend your entire vacation on the Amalfi Coast.
5. Ischia
Ischia is the second most popular and well-known island in Italy, after Capri. Ischia is a stunning island in Italy, with the same fauna and flora as Capri. It’s also just as beautiful. This is Capri’s sister, and it can be reached easily from the Amalfi Coast.
The beaches aren’t overcrowded, the landscapes are stunning, and pastel houses tumble down to the charming ports of fishing villages. Ischia has a lot to offer. There are many natural hot springs and thermalpools to explore. You can also find historic buildings and delicious seafood. Ischia is a beautiful island in Italy that can be reached in a very short time. It’s ideal for a vacation.
6. Procida
Procida is the next place to mention when we talk about Italy and islands. Procida is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy. We had to add Procida to our list of Italian islands. Procida is also close to Ischia, Capri, and it’s easy reachable from Naples. However, it’s less well-known than the two other islands.
Although Procida has fewer options for accommodation, it is still untouched and inhabited daily by locals. Procida can be reached by ferry in approximately 40 minutes. It’s the ideal island getaway for those looking for authentic Italian destinations. Although it isn’t a popular tourist spot, you should practice your Italian before you visit!
7. La Maddalena
You must visit La Maddalena if you are in Sardinia. This is especially true if you are in Olbia. We want to talk about Italy and islands by focusing on the best beaches. That’s what makes a vacation island perfect.
La Maddalena is the place to be. Beautiful beaches and breathtaking lands. The Parco Nazionale dell’Arcipelago di La Maddalena, national parks, consists of seven islands, where La Maddalena can be found at its largest and most attractive. La Maddalena’s beaches and coastline are reminiscent of the Caribbeans. However, there are no sharks and everyone speaks Italian. Romain ruins can be found here, which are ideal for sailing and offer a wonderful atmosphere.
8. Caprera
If you’re already in La Maddalena we should highlight the island that is our favorite. It is a natural park. Caprera is one of the most beautiful islands in Italy. If you don’t have a private boat you can take the ferry to La Maddalena and then rent a scooter or bus to Caprera. Caprera can be reached by car as there is a bridge linking the islands.
Caprera is one of the most beautiful Italian islands. Some of Caprera’s beaches are among the most beautiful in Italy, including the Spiaggia di Cala Coticcio or Spiaggia-i Due Mari. Caprera is all about white sand and rocks that look like they have been sanded by sculptors. It also has crystal clear, transparent water with incredible colors.
9. Lipari
We make our way to Sicily as we reach one of the most beautiful islands in Italy. Lipari has beautiful scenery, magical accommodations, and beautiful beaches. Lipari is an excellent choice if you are looking for a secret island off Italy.
Lipari, the largest Aeolian Island off Sicily is easily accessible by ferry from Milazzo. You can see Lipari’s location on the map of the Italian islands. It is located between Sicily, Italy and Italy. You can’t miss the Coral Beach, Lipari Castle and Belvedere Qattrocchi. There are also stunning beaches and beautiful hiking trails.
10. Lampedusa
Where is Lampedusa, Italy? Lampedusa can be found south of Italy, very close to Malta. Lampedusa is one of the most beautiful Italian islands. Let’s begin with the beautiful beaches. Then let’s stop. You will need to travel approximately 4 hours to reach the three Pelagie islands, which are located about 105 miles from Sicily.
The protected marine reserve on the southern shore of Lampedusa includes beautiful beaches, clear waters, and great summer vibes. If you’re looking for a place to be right in the middle the Mediterranean Sea, this is the place to visit. It’s a beautiful, secret location for those looking for an island off Italy.
