I currently live in Milan, which is about an hour away. I know that moving to Milan would require me to spend 3x as much. Particularly when it comes to renting a house. A one-bedroom apartment with a living area and all the other amenities in a nicer location will cost between EUR1000 and EUR2000, depending on the area. The same apartment is available if you travel outside of the city. It would cost EUR500.

It’s difficult to choose the best place to live in Italy for your business goals. Rome also has its unique possibilities. It is much cheaper to live in Rome than Milan, if you are wondering if it is expensive to live in Italy. This might be surprising, considering that Rome is the capital.
Rome is full of beauty that makes everyone who visits it fall in love. Although it is beautiful to live in such an historic city, your goals will vary. Rome is a great place to live if you are an American looking to connect with other cultures.
Over the past seven years, I have met many Americans, Chinese and Australians as well as Brits, Germans and others from other countries who have moved to Rome. Many of them are entrepreneurs, self-employed, or bloggers. However, many others have great jobs such as university professors. It is not easy to find a job as an office worker in Rome, especially if your language skills are limited.
Particularly if you are looking to work for an Italian company. Although there are many remote jobs available in Rome, it can be difficult to find one. Living costs are still a concern. You’d need to make at least EUR1500 to be able to live comfortably, even if you move on your own.
Florence is definitely one the most beautiful places in Italy to live. You should choose Florence if you are looking for somewhere that is halfway between Milan and Rome. Florence is the best choice if we are trying to find a blend of the historic, cultural Rome and the dynamic, fast-developing Milan.
It’s a big city full of beauty and art. But it also offers many opportunities for work. Enjoy the Tuscan lifestyle. Because of its lack of language barriers, Florence is one the best places in Italy to live as an American. There are also many American students in Florence and many entrepreneurs and freelancers.
Florence is a lovely city to live in. You can enjoy the Tuscan countryside on weekends, or go for a quick trip to the beaches in Tuscany. The average price for a one-bedroom apartment is EUR650. However, the more expensive apartments start at EUR750-EUR800.
You should watch the Letters to Juliet movie if you are considering Verona as your next home. Verona is a great place to live as an American in Italy. It’s smaller than Milan, Rome, and Florence, but it’s large enough to feel like you’re living in a big place.
Although the cost of living in big cities is lower than elsewhere, it’s still higher. A 1 bedroom apartment could be found for EUR800 to EUR1200. Verona is beautiful, peaceful, and clean. This is why I love it so much. It is a wonderful place to move on your own or with family members, as well as for elders.
Verona lies between Milan and Venice. This makes it a great spot for travelers who need to be close to international airports. There are many amazing spots nearby, including Lake Garda and Trento, Bolzano and the Dolomites. I would move to Lake Garda if it were only 10 minutes from my home and I didn’t have any career obstacles.
This place is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, climbing, biking, rock climbing and other outdoor activities. You can also do all kinds of sports on the lake. There are many wineries around Verona.
It all comes down to what you want, your lifestyle, the possibilities available, and your budget. Bologna is a great place to live, especially for young people. Bologna is working hard to keep pace with other regional capitals. There’s so much to do and see.
Bologna is a beautiful place. It has its peaceful, serene sides as well as those that are full of youth and university students. Bologna, the capital of the Emilia Romagna Region, is where you’ll find the best food. Bologna is known as the Italian food capital.
Bologna is the perfect choice for people who live for delicious, high-quality foods. It is priced and has living costs that are similar to Verona so it can be classified as a middle-range city.
Bologna is also near Venice and Florence. As I write this article, I am actually riding the train between Bologna (Florence) and Bologna (Florence). The Frecciarossa (high speed trains) takes only an hour. If you’re looking for a convenient location to stay, it’s a great place to be if your goal is to travel to both the north and south and to have the sea close by.
Siena, one of the most popular Tuscan towns, is very international. If you are looking for mid-sized cities with a great medieval and Renaissance vibe, incredible food, and wine, it is also one of the most affordable places to live in Italy. There are many wines!
You may be aware that Tuscany is one the most important regions of Italy for winemaking. This is especially true in the region surrounding Siena. There are so many vineyards that you won’t even be able count them all. Siena is a wonderful choice for anyone who dreams of Tuscany but wants a city over a village.
It is a beautiful place with stunning villas and hills surrounding it. You should consider Siena if you are not looking to rent but want to purchase a property close to a city but not too expensive. You can find apartments with 2 or 3 bedrooms for as low as EUR750, depending on your budget.
Sorrento is my choice if I had to choose a place near the sea that I would love to live. Although the area is not my favourite for the best beaches in Italy (but if you scroll down, you’ll find my number one spot by the sea), Sorrento is a wonderful place to live. If you are wondering if it is expensive to live in Italy, then Sorrento will be your answer.
Corso Italia apartments start at EUR1500 and are 1 bedroom apartments. It will cost you less than 60 minutes to move to Naples. This money could be enough to last a month. But, as a foreigner, I don’t recommend moving to Naples. There may be some people who do live there. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, even though I speak Italian fluently and have lived in Italy for two years.
However, Sorrento is known as the paradise for orange and lemon trees. It boasts stunning sunset views of the Gulf of Sorrento’s volcano Vesuvius and the Gulf of Sorrento. It is very popular during the summer season and is full of tourists. Capri and the Amalfi coast are both within 30 minutes. You can also take the Ferry to Naples if you don’t want to drive. It’s also easy to get there from Naples via the international Airport.
It is known for its beautiful beaches, charmant streets and great food. Although it isn’t the most expensive, it’s certainly one of the best. Bari is the capital of Puglia, a beautiful region. This is a popular spot for many Italians, and attracts many international tourists.
Bari is a great place to live. You can find 1-bedroom apartments starting from EUR650. You can visit many attractions in the city, as well as miles of beautiful beaches and waters. Bari is a great location for freelancers or those looking to start their own business.
It is quite far from the major Italian cities, with Naples being more than 250km away. Bari is the ideal place for those looking for a life in the south, away from the big cities and close to the coast with plenty of beaches to explore. This area is great for families who are looking to move to Italy. However, this all depends on what your profession is and how you plan to live in Italy.
9. Region Calabria
We are now at the ideal place to live in Italy. This is what many of you have been searching for. You’ve probably heard of the Calabria Italy Pay to Move program. Now, you’re likely to want to learn how to move to Italy. Let’s start by talking about the region. Then we’ll talk about the program!
Calabria is located in the southern part of the Italian peninsula. The island of Sicily is down south. This region is loved for its beautiful beaches and unspoiled coastal towns. Calabria is one the poorest areas in Italy. This is why the pay-to-move program was created. Calabria is a great place to start a local business or freelance. If you can handle the heat, Calabria is also a very affordable and beautiful place to move.
Pay to Move in Calabria started filling up villages that were about to become completely empty. These include Albidona and Santa Severina as well as Bova. Charming streets and beautiful historical towns are just a few of the many charms that make this place so special. It is a dream destination for anyone who loves the traditional architecture of Italy. Although the program is not without its limitations, there are some requirements. For example, you must be under 40 to qualify. However, the region will pay you more than EUR30.000 to move there. Why wouldn’t it?
For those of you who dream of living an Under Tuscan Sun-like lifestyle in Italy, the hills of Tuscany is the ideal place to live. If this is you, then we recommend looking into the best places to live. You must choose places that are popular for tourism if you don’t know Italian.
If you are looking for a place closer to Florence, Volterra and San Gimignano are two great options. But if your goal is to live in the heart of Tuscany’s most beautiful region, Montepulciano or Chianti might be the right choice. How much does it cost to live in Italy’s countryside? This is also the most affordable place to live in Italy.
If you are a foreigner and want to live in Tuscany, it is not because you want an office job that requires you to be there at 9 o’clock in the morning. You might be working online, writing books, or dreaming of owning an olive grove, vineyard, or cashmere home. Perhaps you are looking to start an agriturismo, a bed and breakfast. All of these reasons will require you to want to purchase a house, not just rent one.
The prices for Tuscany’s countryside houses, particularly in Montepulciano, range from EUR95.000 to EUR2.000.000. It all depends on your goals and your standards. You can find beautiful villas for as little as EUR100K and very cute houses.
11. Costa Smeralda, Sardinia
The Emerald Coast in Sardinia is not the place to be! Imagine living on the most beautiful beaches and seasides that you have ever seen. It’s the Costa Smeralda in Sardinia, a popular summer destination for many Italians.
It’s not cheap to live in places like Olbia and Porto Cervo. However, the beauty of these cities is well worth it if you’re looking to retire on an island. You should be aware that Sardinia may not be the best place to look for a job in a small town. This is especially true if you are interested in working in the hotelier sector.
But even then, Sardinia can’t be considered a year-round tourist destination, as it is primarily a summer destination. Who is it good to live in Sardinia then? People who want to escape the world and enjoy peace, surrounded with the sea and warm summer days. There is not much to do in the winter so it’s important that you carefully consider the area before you move there. This is the ideal location for digital nomads, entrepreneurs who work from home and then go out to enjoy the sun and ocean after work.
Ravenna, like Bari and other coastal towns is a lovely place to live and has a lot of tourism each year. Ravenna, like Bologna and Parma, is located in Emilia Romagna. We’ve also added Piacenza to this list. Ravenna, unlike these cities, is located on the coast.
Ravenna is the perfect place to live near the sea in a growing, food-loving region. Rimini is also very popular but it gets so crowded with tourists in the summer, I recommend Rimini to those who love being social butterflies and don’t mind the hectic summer months.
Ravenna, on the other side, is more tranquil, but it still offers the same beaches and opportunities as Rimini. There’s also plenty to see and do in history, architecture and art. Bologna and Venice are both within an hour’s drive.
Parma was one of the towns I considered moving to after I moved to Italy. Although I chose the less expensive neighbor, if financials weren’t a major factor at the time, I would have chosen Parma. It’s the heaven of food! The famous Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma and many other delicious, world-famous food products and dishes.
All foodies planning to move to Italy after Bologna and before Florence or Siena I recommend that you consider Parma as your 2nd choice. It is located approximately 2 hours from Milan and 1 hour from Bologna. This means that you have two large cities and 4 international airports within a 2-hour radius. Parma is a fast-developing city that attracts more international visitors. It’s also a great choice for English speakers.
How much does it cost to live in Italy and Parma? You can usually find 1-bedroom apartments starting at EUR600. Living costs in Parma are much lower than those of the larger cities. Parma is a beautiful and elegant town where there’s plenty to do. It’s a great place to live for art lovers and social butterflies.
Lake Como is a great place to live in Italy, if you have the money! Many celebrities from America own properties in Lake Como. But that’s not all. Many of the most well-known Italian fashion designers also have homes near the lake. As you can see, Lake Como is a place for the elite.
It doesn’t mean you can’t move to the lake, nor that you won’t be able to find a rental property in the surrounding towns. It’s quite the opposite! Lake Como is the perfect place to live in Italy if you are an American, or any other English-speaking person. Every year, many people travel to Lake Como from all over the world.
Prices for renting properties in towns like Como start at EUR750. I am referring to a 1-bedroom apartment. It’s not the most expensive, but it’s beautiful and peaceful, and very close to Milan. People who want to move here will need to visit the city at least once more. It’s about an hour away.
Finally, I was able to leave this charming little town, just an hour from Milan. Piacenza can be a great place to live in Italy, especially if you’re looking to be close to Milan and want to enjoy historic towns with strong traditions and stunning views just a few km up to the preApennines. Piacenza can be found in Emilia Romagna. This region is home to many large Italian companies and fabrics. It also houses the headquarters of some of Italy’s most renowned food brands.
Piacenza is the place to be if you are looking for peace, safety, and balance. It is smaller than a village but larger than a large city.
However, Piacenza’s people are amazing and you may be separated by a language barrier. Many of the younger generation speak English well, and many can do so very well. However, there are many others who don’t know English at all.
This won’t prevent you from starting a new life in the city. The university is home to many international students, so the town is not very introverted. Because tourism has not yet taken over, it’s more traditional and peaceful. Piacenza is a great place to live. at around EUR500.
This is a great place to work for someone who is independent, but it might also be a good location for professionals. You can also use it if you aren’t able to travel more than an hour to get to Milan.
These are the top 15 places to live in Italy.
