1. Take in the harvest at one Italy’s most famous fall food festivals

2. Fall in Italy means less crowds…and lower prices
Fall is, for many, the best time to travel to Italy. It is also cheaper to travel to Italy, as it has fewer tourists. As cooler temperatures bring down prices, so do the prices.
Don’t rush to judgment: High season prices in high-trafficked locations like Rome, Venice and Florence can be high through September, or even October. You can take advantage of September’s lower accommodation costs by traveling to more remote areas such as Puglia, Abruzzo or Molise. You can still visit the traditional places while still avoiding crowds and enjoying lower prices. However, you should travel as late as possible in the season, from late October to early November.

It has a pleasant climate in the autumn. Even further north, temperatures can reach the 70s or 80s in September, even as far as Venice. This is a far cry from the August heat and it looks pretty good.
The daytime highs and lowests in October are within a range that allows you to put on a light jacket and then take it off in the afternoon. You can watch the sun set over an aperitif while you wait. This is also a better climate for photography because the sun’s rays are less harsh and the shadows become darker, making old Roman ruins photos look even more dramatic.
There are more rainy day than usual, so be aware of this, especially in Venice, where it starts in November. The sunshine is wonderful and, unless you’re a true sun-lover, it’s much more pleasant during the day than in the summer.
