Walks of Italy is a group of people who enjoy good wine and helping their friends. Florence is one the most beautiful cities in Italy for drinking and eating. However, if you wish to eat at a local wine bar and order the best Chianti Classico for EUR5 (or less), and then pair it with some mouthwatering prosciutto, you will need to know where to find it.
Are you still with us? Or are you already dreaming of tender prosciutto? These are the top four wine bars in Florence.
Il Santino (Santo Spirito neighborhood)
This wine bar is, quite simply, heaven! Il Santino has a reputation for offering high-quality wine and delicious prosciutto. Two staff members! The staff (of two!) is always available to recommend the perfect wine to pair with your snack.
You can enjoy the beautiful weather outside, and people-watch, in Santo Spirito in Oltrarno on the “across Arno” side to downtown Florence. You can find out more about the Oltrarno neighborhood. You can also choose to sit at the bar or relax on the benches if you prefer to stay indoors. It’s the ideal enoteca for the cooler months, thanks to its prosciutto-scented atmosphere and romantically lit environment.
If Il Santino sounds familiar, we might have mentioned it in our post about the best restaurants of Florence! ).
Il Santino is located just over the Arno River at Via di Santo Spirito 60r. Phone: (+39) 055 2302820.
Enoteca Bevo Vino (San Niccolo neighborhood)
A great alternative–especially after a memorable hike down from Piazzale Michelangelo -is Enoteca Bevo Vivo. It literally means “I drink wine”, which is pretty much what it says!
The enoteca is located in the hip San Niccolo area of Florence. It has a wine library on the left and a bar to the right. The enoteca is always crowded with locals, which gives it a great buzz. This is the place to go if you want wild boar meat to accompany your wine. You can also enjoy a great Aperol-spritz, and smoked fish dishes with your wine. You can also find our post about how to make an Aperol-spritz and other favourite Italian cocktails at home. ).
Live music may be available if you are lucky. Enoteca Vino will make your evening memorable.
Via San Niccolo, 59r is where you will find Enoteca Bevo Vino. Tel. (+39) 0552 0001709.
La Prosciutteria (near Uffizi Gallery).
A place named The Prosciutto Shop must be good. La Prosciutteria is a gem of a Tuscan enoteca. It’s located just east of the Uffizi Gallery and offers great wines by glass or bottle as well as delicious cheeses and cured meats. Try soppressata with a Super Tuscan or Morellino di Scansano.
You can grab an outdoor table early if you want to be among the first ones.
La Prosciutteria is located on Via dei Neri 54/r. Telephone (+39) 0552654472.
Mago Balducci: Le Cure area
This sweet wine bar is located north of Le Cure’s downtown, in a residential area near the stadium where La Fiorentina, Florence’s most famous soccer team, plays. It’s not easy to get there by bus or taxi, but it’s well worth it. You’ll be able to enjoy great food and wine with locals, which is rare in Florence.
Mago Balducci is a shabby chic restaurant with great wines and delicious treats. Locals love to go before dinner, and many stay late into the evening.
Mago Balducci can be found at Via Marconi 24, Rome. Call +39 366 745 2272.
